What Happened to EdApp, and Why It Should Shape Your Microlearning Choice
SafetyCulture acquired EdApp in 2020 and rebranded it to SC Training in May 2024. The EdApp platform retired on 31 March 2026, and the data export window closed on 20 April 2026.
The critical detail sits in SafetyCulture's own migration guidance: customers moving to the free plan could bring their courses across, but their users, groups and completion records did not transfer. Preserving historical training data required a paid annual plan.
So organisations that had trained staff on EdApp for years had to pay to keep their own completion history. The gamification system, Real Rewards and stars, was discontinued with no equivalent.
Three lessons for small and medium sized businesses buying microlearning:
- Portability is not a nice-to-have. EdApp did not offer standalone SCORM export on lower tiers, so customers who built heavily there had no clean exit.
- Your records are as trapped as your content. Completion history is the record auditors ask for, and it is the first thing to go.
- Standalone SCORM export on a self-serve tier is the hedge. Not on enterprise. On the tier you can actually afford.
One correction: a number of comparison articles currently claim that SC Training itself is shutting down. It is not. EdApp retired. SC Training is the surviving product and is actively sold.

- The flashcard-only format rules out branching and scenario work.

Why Articulate matters for SMB microlearning: SCORM export from day one, your LMS holds the data, and Storyline is the benchmark authoring tool.
Read the licence carefully. An active learner is not a person. It is a credit consumed by each unique learner in each 30-day period in which they train. Someone training monthly can burn twelve credits a year, and Articulate's support staff confirm that deleting a learner does not give the credit back.
So the honest answer depends on how often your people train:
- Once a year (annual compliance): 1,000 people consumes roughly 1,000 credits. That is about $3.60 per person, and Articulate beats QuikAuthor outright. If that is your model, use Articulate.
- Monthly or ongoing: those same 1,000 people could consume far more than 1,200 credits, and you will be buying more. The $3.60 figure evaporates.

The cost structure, stated plainly. SC Training's headline is $5 per learner per month. Its mandatory $24 per month admin seat is not in the headline. Annualised, that is $60 per learner plus $288 for the admin seat.
- At 100 learners, SC Training costs $6,288 per year, or $62.88 per learner.
- At 200 learners, SC Training costs $12,288 per year, or $61.44 per learner.
At 200 learners that is roughly 15 times the cost of QuikAuthor PRO. We are not going to characterise their pricing page. The arithmetic speaks without help.
Other gaps: SC Training gates SCORM export behind enterprise plans, and its library is US-centric and OSHA-heavy, a genuine gap if you need UK HSE, RIDDOR or COSHH.

- Absorb LMS is a full enterprise LMS with native authoring. Absorb publishes no pricing. Any specific figure quoted for Absorb, including in comparison articles, is an estimate.
