QuikAuthor vs. SC Training (formerly EdApp) 2026

By QuikAuthor Team | Last updated: July 2026 | Pricing verified against SC Training's published pricing, July 2026 | 9 min read

Key Findings

  1. SC Training's headline price is $5 per learner per month, but a mandatory $24 per month admin seat is not in the headline. At 100 learners the real figure is $6,288 per year, or $62.88 per learner.
  2. QuikAuthor PRO costs $799 per year for one author and 200 learners — roughly 15 times cheaper than SC Training at the same scale.
  3. SC Training gates SCORM export behind its enterprise plan. QuikAuthor includes standalone SCORM export on every plan including free.
  4. SC Training's library of 1,000+ prebuilt courses is real value that QuikAuthor does not have. If your topic is covered, it saves you weeks.
  5. EdApp, the legacy platform, retired on 31 March 2026. Customers moving to SafetyCulture's free plan kept their courses but lost their completion records unless they paid for an annual plan.

Who Owns SC Training, and Why It Matters

If you have been in L&D a while, you know this product as EdApp. SafetyCulture, an Australian frontline inspections and operations software company, acquired EdApp in 2020 and rebranded it to SC Training in May 2024.

That ownership explains most of what follows.

SafetyCulture's core business is workplace safety and inspections, not authoring. Training is an adjacent product line serving deskless workers. So:

  1. The prebuilt library leans heavily on OSHA safety content — excellent if that is your topic, a gap if you need UK HSE, RIDDOR or COSHH.
  2. The product is built around frontline delivery rather than instructional design.
  3. SCORM export sits behind an enterprise gate — because export matters enormously to an instructional designer and not at all to a safety inspector.

A correction worth making: several comparison articles currently claim SC Training is shutting down. It is not. EdApp, the legacy platform, retired on 31 March 2026. SC Training is the surviving product and is actively sold.

What SC Training Is Genuinely Better At

We are not going to pretend this is a bad product. It is a strong product built for a different job.

  1. The library is real. Over 1,000 prebuilt courses across safety, compliance and onboarding. QuikAuthor has none. If your topic is covered, that is weeks of authoring you do not have to do.
  2. The free tier is generous. Ten learners, unlimited courses, and AI course generation plus PDF conversion available on free, not gated. That is a real evaluation tier.
  3. The mobile app is polished and built for deskless delivery. If your workforce is frontline, that is a genuine strength.
  4. SafetyCulture is large and well-funded, with an enterprise compliance posture. QuikAuthor is a small team and we do not match that.

If your workforce is deskless, your topic is workplace safety, and you have no intention of ever leaving the platform, SC Training is a reasonable choice and you should take it seriously.

How Much Does SC Training Actually Cost?

This is the number that surprises people.

SC Training advertises $5 per learner per month. What is not in the headline is a mandatory $24 per month admin seat.

Annualised, that is $60 per learner plus $288 for the admin seat.

LearnersSC TrainingQuikAuthorDifference
100$6,288/yr ($62.88 per learner)$799/yr (PRO)~8x
200$12,288/yr ($61.44 per learner)$799/yr (PRO)~15x
500$30,288/yr ($60.58 per learner)$4,399/yr~7x

We are not going to characterise their pricing page. The arithmetic speaks without help. But if you are budgeting from the $5 figure, check the admin seat before you sign anything.

How Do You Choose Between QuikAuthor and SC Training?

1. Is your topic in their library?

  1. Yes — workplace safety, generic compliance, retail or hospitality basics: SC Training's 1,000+ courses save you real time. Take the library.
  2. No — proprietary process, your own products, your own SOPs, UK-specific compliance: the library will not cover it, so authoring speed matters more than prebuilt content.

2. Do you need your content to be portable?

  1. Yes, or possibly: QuikAuthor. Standalone SCORM export on every plan including free.
  2. No, never: SC Training's export gate does not affect you.

Worth knowing: EdApp customers found out what "enterprise-gated export" means in practice in March 2026. When the platform retired, those moving to SafetyCulture's free plan kept their courses but lost their completion records unless they upgraded to a paid annual plan.

3. How many learners?

  1. Up to 10: SC Training's free tier covers you.
  2. 11 to 50: QuikAuthor's free tier is the only one that covers you without payment.
  3. More than 50: do the arithmetic. At 200 learners, SC Training is $12,288/yr against QuikAuthor's $799/yr.

4. Where does your content come from?

  1. A library: SC Training.
  2. Your own videos, documents and SOPs: QuikAuthor. Upload a store-floor walkthrough or a policy PDF, and the AI builds the lesson.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SC Training really cost per learner? SC Training advertises $5 per learner per month. Once the mandatory $24 per month admin seat is included, the real cost is $62.88 per learner per year at 100 learners, and $61.44 per learner per year at 200 learners.

Does SC Training support SCORM export? SC Training gates SCORM export behind its enterprise plan. It is not available on the free tier or on entry-level paid plans. QuikAuthor includes standalone SCORM 1.2 and 2004 export on every plan, with 10 lifetime exports on free and unlimited on paid.

Is SC Training the same as EdApp? SC Training is the rebranded successor to EdApp. SafetyCulture acquired EdApp in 2020 and rebranded it to SC Training in May 2024. The EdApp platform itself retired on 31 March 2026, with the data export window closing on 20 April 2026.

Is SC Training shutting down? No. SC Training is the surviving product and is actively sold. EdApp, the legacy platform, is the one that retired.

Does SC Training have a free plan? Yes, and it is generous. Ten learners, unlimited courses, over 1,000 prebuilt courses, and AI course generation plus PDF conversion available on the free tier. What it does not include is SCORM export.

Can I import my EdApp courses into QuikAuthor? Yes, if you exported them before EdApp's export window closed on 20 April 2026. QuikAuthor has a dedicated EdApp conversion toolkit that turns exported EdApp content into fully editable QuikAuthor courses.

Which has more prebuilt content, QuikAuthor or SC Training? SC Training, by a wide margin. It offers over 1,000 prebuilt courses. QuikAuthor has none, and instead focuses on generating courses from your own material — videos, PDFs, prompts and existing documents.

Which is better for frontline and deskless workers? Both work. SC Training's library and mobile app are built specifically for frontline delivery, and if your topic is workplace safety it is the faster route. QuikAuthor is the better choice if your frontline training is proprietary — your own processes, your own products, your own footage.

The Honest Verdict

Choose SC Training if you need a high-volume library of generic safety and compliance content, your workforce is deskless, and you are comfortable with export sitting behind an enterprise contract. The library is genuinely valuable and we cannot match it.

Choose QuikAuthor if your training is proprietary — your own videos, your own documents, your own processes — you want it to look and feel like yours, and you want to be able to take it with you.

The two numbers worth carrying into that decision: SC Training at 200 learners is $12,288 a year. QuikAuthor PRO is $799. And only one of them lets you export on a plan you can buy without a phone call.
