QuikAuthor Operation Guide

Welcome to QuikAuthor! This guide will walk you through the core features of the platform to help you get started creating amazing learning experiences.

The Project Library: Your Home Base

The Project Library is the first screen you see after logging in. It's where all your courses and folders are stored, acting as your central content repository.

Navigating Your Library

  • Root & Folders: You start at the "Projects" root level. Click on any folder to navigate into it.
  • Breadcrumbs: As you navigate into folders, a breadcrumb trail will appear at the top, like "Projects / Folder A / Sub-folder B". Click any part of the trail to quickly navigate back up.

Managing Your Content

  • View Switcher: In the top right, you can toggle between a visual 'Grid View' and a more detailed 'List View'.
  • Drag & Drop (List View Only): The List View is powerful! It allows you to drag and drop courses and folders to reorder them or move them into other folders.
  • Sorting: Use the sort dropdown to organize your projects by date modified, date created, or title (A-Z or Z-A).
  • Card Actions: Hover over any course or folder card to reveal action buttons like Edit, Delete, and Export (for courses).

Creating Content: From Blank Slate to AI Magic

QuikAuthor provides several ways to create new content, designed to be flexible for your workflow.

Creating a New Course

Click the blue "New Course" button in the library to open a dropdown menu with several powerful options:

  • Build Your Own: This is the traditional approach. It creates a blank course, taking you to the Course Dashboard where you can add lessons and build your content from scratch.
  • Build with AI Wizard (Beta): Your creative co-pilot. Provide a prompt with your topic, objectives, and audience, and our AI will generate a complete, multi-lesson course structure with content and quizzes, ready for you to refine.
  • Convert Asset with AI (Beta): Have existing material? Upload a PDF document, and our AI will analyze the content and build a structured, multi-lesson course based on it.
  • Create from Template: (For Admins) Jumpstart your project using a pre-structured course template for common business topics like Sales, Leadership, or Onboarding.

Creating a New Folder

Click the "New Folder" button to create a new folder in your current location. Give it a name, description, and an optional cover image to keep your library organized.

The Course Dashboard: Your Mission Control

When you click on a course, you'll be taken to its dashboard. This is your mission control for that specific course, allowing you to manage its structure, appearance, and content at a high level.

  • Course Details: At the top, you can edit the course title, description, cover image, and tags. Remember to click "Save Details" after making changes.
  • Branding & Behavior Settings: This powerful section sets the default look, feel, and functionality for the entire course. You can customize colors, fonts, logos, button styles, and even add custom CSS. A live mobile preview shows your changes instantly.
  • Lessons Section: This is where you manage the lessons within your course. You can add new lessons (either blank, from a pre-structured template, or with the AI Wizard), edit a lesson's card details, delete a lesson, or click on a lesson to enter the Lesson Builder.

The Lesson Builder: Where the Magic Happens

The heart of QuikAuthor is the Lesson Builder. This is where you'll spend most of your time creating and refining your slide-based content. It features an intuitive three-panel layout in the default 'Focus View'.

The Slide List (Left Panel)

  • Slide Thumbnails: See a visual overview of all slides in your lesson.
  • Reordering: Drag and drop slides to change their sequence.
  • Adding Slides: Click the main "Add Slide" button at the top, or click the "+" icon that appears between slides to insert a new one at a specific position. This opens the Template Library.
  • Deleted Slides: The trash can icon at the top opens a panel where you can restore recently deleted slides.

The Live Preview (Center Panel)

  • Fully Interactive: This isn't a static image. It's a live, fully functional preview of your slide. What you see is exactly what your learners will get.
  • Direct Editing: Click directly on any text to edit it. A floating style toolbar will appear, allowing you to change formatting like bold, italics, color, and font size.
  • Contextual Settings: Hover over different parts of the slide to find settings icons. These allow you to change images, edit game content, or adjust slide-specific options.
  • Device Switcher: Use the mobile, tablet, and desktop icons to see how your content looks and feels on different screen sizes.

The Comments Panel (Right Panel)

  • Leave feedback, ask questions, and collaborate with your team members directly on each slide. You can resolve comments to keep track of changes.

The Header Bar

  • Undo/Redo: Don't worry about mistakes! You can easily undo and redo your changes.
  • View Switcher: Toggle between 'Focus View' (the three-panel layout) and 'Storybook View' for a high-level overview of the entire course.
  • Settings: Open a dropdown to manage lesson-level settings, allowing you to override the main course branding or behavior for just this lesson.
  • Save & Exit: Your work is auto-saved, but this button ensures all recent changes are saved before returning you to the Course Dashboard.

Exporting & Sharing Your Course

Once your course is ready, you can easily export it for use in any modern Learning Management System (LMS) or share it for review.

Exporting a SCORM Package

  1. From the Course Dashboard, click the "Export Course" button.
  2. In the dialog, select which lessons you want to include in the package. You can export the whole course, a single lesson, or any combination.
  3. Choose whether to bundle them into one package or export each selected lesson as an individual file.
  4. Select your SCORM version (1.2 or 2004). SCORM 2004 is recommended for most modern systems.
  5. Click "Export" and a .zip file will be downloaded, ready to be uploaded to your LMS.

Sharing a Web Preview

Need to share your work with a stakeholder who doesn't have a QuikAuthor account? From the Lesson Builder header, click the globe icon to "Launch Web Preview". This will open the lesson in a new tab with a shareable URL. This link is for preview purposes only and does not track learner progress.

AI Video Editor (Beta)

The AI Video Editor is a powerful tool that transforms a single long-form video into a multi-lesson, interactive course. It automates transcription, content analysis, and quiz creation.

The Workflow

  1. Create a Project: Navigate to the AI Video Editor from the main app header and start a new project by uploading your video file.
  2. AI Transcription: The system will automatically transcribe your entire video. This may take a few minutes depending on the video length.
  3. Define Lessons on the Timeline: Once transcribed, you'll be taken to the Timeline view. Here, you can review the transcript synced with the video. The AI will suggest logical "break points" to split your video into lessons. You can add, remove, or adjust these break points by double-clicking on the transcript.
  4. Structure Your Lessons: After finalizing your break points, you'll define the structure for each lesson. You can add introductory slides, branching logic, and select which types of quizzes you want the AI to generate for each video segment.
  5. Review AI-Generated Quizzes: The AI will generate quizzes based on the content of each video segment and your template selections. You can review, edit, or delete any of the AI's suggestions.
  6. Create Course: Once you're happy with the quizzes, click "Create Course". The system will assemble everything into a new course in your Project Library, complete with lessons and interactive slides, ready for you to refine and publish.

AI Avatar Video (Beta)

The AI Avatar Video feature allows you to create high-quality instructional videos with a realistic AI presenter. This is perfect for adding a human touch to your lessons without the need for cameras, studios, or professional actors.

How to Create an AI Avatar Video

  1. Access the Wizard: Navigate to the AI Avatar Video section from the main application header or look for the "Create AI Video" option when adding new content.
  2. Select Your Avatar: Choose from a variety of professional AI avatars that match the tone and style of your training.
  3. Select a Voice: Pick from a wide range of natural-sounding AI voices. You can preview voices to find the perfect match for your script.
  4. Write Your Script: Enter the text you want the avatar to speak. You can even use the AI's "magic wand" to help refine or expand your script based on a simple topic.
  5. Generate Video: Once you're happy with the script and settings, click "Generate Video". The system will process your request and create your high-quality avatar video.
  6. Embed in Lessons: Once the video is ready, it will be saved to your media library. You can then easily add it to any slide using the Video player templates.

Advanced Features & Tips

Take your course creation to the next level with these powerful features.

  • Lesson-Level Overrides: While in the Lesson Builder, use the "Settings" dropdown in the header to override the main course branding or behavior for just that specific lesson. This is perfect for making a final quiz look different or changing the pass rate for a specific module.
  • Storybook View: In the Lesson Builder header, switch from "Focus View" to "Storybook View". This gives you a high-level, horizontal layout of your entire course. It's the best way to visualize the overall flow and easily drag-and-drop slides between different lessons.
  • QA Scan : On the Course Dashboard, click the "QA Scan" button. This tool will automatically check your entire course for broken or invalid image and video links, helping you catch issues before you publish.
